About Us

Animation Love Affair is a collective formed by friends Claire Woronowicz, MD Vazhappilly, Wylder Voegele, Rachel Nemez, Sofia Gomez, Nadia Nazar, and Emily Kobert, Marina Abreu Souza, and Rey Reyes. Their collaborative dynamic can be traced to Animation Thesis at MICA where they found each other amongst their cohort: exchanging critique, building trust, and trading mutual admiration. Their trajectory post-graduation as collaborators and studio-mates has solidified their artistic commitment to animation as an independent artform, to sustaining individual practices in conversation with each others’, and to Baltimore city as community and home.

Working in techniques spanning experimental animation, their art practices involve hand-drawn frames, stop motion animation, printmaking, puppet-making, sculpture, painting, and material-driven experiments to create short films, performances, installations, and expressions of curiosity. Their animated films, created from thousands of sequential hand-crafted images, come alive onscreen. Animation, an artform of empathy and embodiment, invites audiences to give into imagination and to reflect on truths about our intersecting lives.

Animation Love Affair strives to nourish Baltimore’s home-grown animation scene by inviting neighbors and newcomers to take part in making, watching, and loving animation. This mission comes to life through Animation Love Affair’s community workshops, public screenings, and the structure of the collective itself.
