Baltimore Transfiguration International Film Festival

It’s alive and coming fast.

The Transfiguration International Film Festival is a travelling experimental film & animation festival that highlights non-commercial filmmaking. Focused on films that are challenging, unmarketable, and made by those on the margins, this festival is a celebration of misfit filmmakers and animators who are interested in stretching the medium to its limits. The Festival highlights filmmakers that are BIPOC, queer, and who blaze their own trails outside of the standards of industry.

“Animation Love Amalgamation: Drawing Musical Chairs”

Doors at 5:30, participants will not be admitted after 6:00PM

One beautiful strange collaborative short film. A workshop led by ALA members Claire & Wylder. No experience necessary. The film created during the workshop will play as the signal film for the Baltimore Block of Transfiguration International Film Festival. Limited participation of 24 people. Participants will explore a new “fractal” method of making animation as a group.

2 hours of international films and a special, ALA-curated screening films by Baltimore-based animators. The night will close with a Q&A with local filmmakers!

The Baltimore edition of this festival is helmed by Animation Love Affair, a Baltimore-based animation collective currently housed at the Crow’s Nest. We produce our own films and run accessible, DIY animation workshops as a collective while supporting each other’s personal practices as filmmakers and artists. This festival was founded by the indie animator Jonni Peppers-GoLions, who has created 6+ hours of hand-drawn, mixed-media animated films to spite the bloat and exploitative labor practices of the animation industry. She will be travelling to Baltimore to attend & support the second edition of the Transfiguration Film Festival.

Tickets are $11 per night and can be purchased online at Eventbrite or by cash at the door. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to supporting screening animators. Come join Baltimore’s animation scene, watch wild films, and build community!
